Biography
Excerpt: "Gen. Joseph King Fenno Mansfield became Middletown's greatest hero of the Civil War. He died in 1862 at the battle of Antietam while leading the Union Army¿s 12th Corps. He was 58. He also oversaw the construction and fortification of Fort Pulaski in Georgia, which later came under control of the Confederate Army and was severely damaged by a Union bombardment. The general is buried in Middletown's Indian Hill Cemetery."
