Biography

Helena, or Saint Helena was the mother of Constantine the Great, the first Christian Emperor of Rome. She is known for her influence on her son. When she made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Helena reputedly discovered Christ's cross. She is also credited with bringing back the "Scala Sancta" which is in St. John Lateran church, which William Henry Seward references in his letter dated August 22, 1859.
