Sarah Seymour was the daughter of Jane Hopkinson Seymour and Henry Seymour, a British politician, and married William Ayshford Sanford. When William Henry Seward dined with his previous acquaintance, Henry Danby Seymour, during a visit to London in 1859, Henry Seward met Danby Seymour's mother and sisters.
