Biography

Scipio Africanus the Younger was born to the great Roman general Lucius Aemilius Paullus Macedonicus and adopted by Scipio Africanus the Elder after the death of his mother. He entered the political sphere of Rome and as a military leader. He died suddenly, and is buried in the Tomb of the Scipios in Rome. William Henry Seward visited the tomb during his travels in Rome and writes about it in his letter of August 16, 1859.
