Biography

Francis Jeune was an engaged academic at Oxford and religiously fervent in his beliefs. He opposed the Oxford movement. Starting in 1858, he served as the University's Vice-Chancellor, the position he held when William Henry Seward visited. Seward wrote that he stayed at the Vice-Chancellor's in his letter of June 21, 1859. Jeune held the Vice-Chancellorship until 1862. He died in 1868.
