Biography

Henry George Liddell began working as a lexicographer with a fellow student while at Oxford. He became a tutor at Balliol College, was a chaplain for Prince Albert, served as headmaster of Westminster School, and eventually became a dean of Christ Church at Oxford. It is in his capacity as Dean that William Henry Seward met him in 1859. In Seward's June 21 letter, he refers to the luncheon at the Dean's as a "very intellectual party." Liddell died in 1898.
