Biography

Before being martyred, Nicholas Ridley was a a priest and academician at Cambridge. He was a chaplain to Thomas Cranmer, and helped transform Cambridge into a Reformist seminary, contributing greatly to English Protestantism. On June 21, 1859, William Henry Seward wrote in letter that during his visit to Oxford he walked over the ground on which Ridley (as well as Cranmer and Latimer) were martyred.
