Henry Murphy was an American statesman that served in Congress for two terms, in the NY State Senate for one term, and as US Minister to the Netherlands. It is in his capacity as an the American minister that William Henry Seward met him. Seward writes of the encounter in his November 28, 1859 letter from the Hague.
