Biography

Charles Cornwallis is best known in the United States for his role in the American Revolution, in which he led British troops. He was defeated in Yorktown, Virginia. He is otherwise known for his military and diplomatic achievements in India after the American Revolution had ended. Fanny Adeline Seward references Cornwallis in her 1862-1863 diary, during her visit to the house that had been Cornwallis' headquarters during the Revolution.
