British-American Actress. Born in Liverpool, England and came to Baltimore, Maryland as a child with her father, actor John Shaw. First married to W.H. Russell whom she divorced in 1847. Remarried John Hoey in 1849 and temporarily retired from the stage. Returned when James William Wallack took over management of his Lyceum theater in New York City and remained the leading lady of his theater until 1865. Hoey is referenced in Fanny Seward's 1862-1863 diary as performing the role of "Mrs. Union" in the production "Bosom Friends" opposite Lester Wallack.
