Biography

Daughter of Charles Anderson Wickliffe, U.S. Representative from Kentucky, and Margaret Cripps Wickliffe. Wife of William Matthews Merrick, U.S. Circuit Judge of District of Columbia. Fanny references being introduced to Mary Merrick by. M. de Barros at a "hop" hosted at Willard's Hotel in Washington, D.C. in her 1862-1863 diary. Fanny later learns that she is an "abominable secessionist."
