Born in Frankenstein, Germany. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1852. A photographer and portrait painter in Washington, D.C. Fanny Seward references visiting his studio with Anna, Jenny, and Mrs. Peale to have their photographs taken, unsuccessfully, in her 1862-1863 diary.
