Noted Shakespearean actress, married Dr. Charles Houpt who died in 1851 after leaving her to seek his fortunes in California. Mestayer left the stage in 1878. Fanny Seward references her in her 1862-1863 diary as performing in a production of Richard III in Washington, D.C.
