Biography

14th Governor of Indiana, served during the American Civil War. Republican. Morton was instrumental in providing troops from Indiana in the Civil War. Served in the U.S. Senate from 1867-1877. Fanny Seward references him in her 1862-1863 diary as attending an evening reception in their home in Washington, D.C., in March 1863. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Edward K. Hart.
