Biography

Born in Erie, PA. Trained in the law. Served as First Lieutenant in Pennsylvania Cavalry during the American Civil War, also on the staff of Generals Pleasonton, Keyes, and Sheridan. Later served as Judge Advocate under the rank of Major. Fanny Seward references him in her 1862-1863 diary as a former member of Rush's Lancers and a friend of the Titian and Lucinda Peale. Apparently, they had a shared interest in photography.
