    George Mortimer Pullman

Biography

American railroad entrepreneur. Developed the first sleeping car named after him, the Pullman Car, which he introduced in 1864. Established the company-town of Pullman, Illinois in the 1880s. In a letter from Lazette Miller Worden to her nephew Augustus Seward, dated June 28, 1869, she describes a letter from Frederick Seward who is on a trip west in a "hotel car" provided by Mr. Pullman.
