American sculptor born in Onondaga County, NY.  As a young man, he traveled to the south where he developed his skills as a sculptor.  Created well-known equestrian statues of Andrew Jackson and George Washington, as well as numerous busts. Frances "Fanny" Seward references the dedication of the Washington statue in her 1860 diary.
