Biography

President of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. During the American Civil War, Garrett  made the railroad available for Union military transport, the first time the railroad was used for this purpose. Frederick William Seward references contacting Mr. Garrett to use railroad cars to transport his father's belongings from Washington, D.C. to Auburn in a letter to his father dated March 10, 1869.
