Born in northern New York State. Relocated to New York City where he practiced law. Great advocate and lifelong friend of Daniel Webster. Albert Haller Tracy references him in a letter written to William Henry Seward, dated May 08, 1832, where he describes him as "hot headed and what is worse a wrong headed politician filled with all the gone by conceits and impractical notions of old fashioned federalism."
