Biography

Byron Smith was a well-established figure in Cayuga County. He and his wife Charlotte Thompson (nee Letchworth) Smith had several children, with three surviving at Byron Smith's death. He was involved with the Cayuga County Historical Society, Seymour Library Association, Auburn City Hospital, and Second Presbyterian Church. His wife Charlotte is mentioned as "Mrs. Byron C. Smith"  in an article included in Lazette Miller Worden's letter to Augustus Henry Seward on June 2, 1873. She and other locals were thanked for "their very generous donations of flowers" to a memorial service held in Auburn for William Henry Seward.
