Biography
Francisco Javier Cardinal de Cienfuegos y Jovellanos was the Archbishop of Seville, Spain from December 1824 until his death in June 1847. Previously he had served as the Bishop of Cadiz, Spain from June 1819 until his instatement at Seville. He became a Cardinal in March 1826.
As described in a letter David Berdan wrote to William Henry Seward in 1826, Archbishop Francisco distributed food to beggars outside his palace each day, which he paid for with his daily income of $850.
