Biography
Rev. Hiram Mattison was born in Norway, Herkimer County, New York, to Solomon and Lydia Mattison. In 1814, the family relocated to Oswego County, New York. Hiram's family were Methodist-Episcopalian and he formally converted at the age of 23. Soon thereafter, he was called to the ministry and traveled throughout Oswego and the surrounding counties as an itinerant minister. Frances "Fanny" Seward references him in her 1858-1859 diary in attendance at the Methodist Oneida Conference being held in Auburn in April 1859. Rev. Mattison fell ill during the conference and stayed in the Seward home.
