Biography

Mary Young Cheney Greeley was the wife of Horace Greeley who was a prominent newspaper publisher and a New York State representative. Mary Greeley worked as a school teacher before marriage. She and Horace had seven children, with five dying before reaching adulthood. She suffered from lung ailments for about twenty years until her death in 1872. Mary was mentioned in an 1858 letter from Anne Napier to Frances Miller Seward.
