Biography

Godon was a naval officer born in Philadelphia who is most recognized for the time he served in the Mexican-American War, the time of which he would become a captain. In the Civil war he was the Captain of the "Mohican" taking part on the attack of Port Royal by the fleet under Admiral Du Pont. He is mentioned in a letter from Clarence Armstrong Seward to Frederick William Seward in 1865 where he is said to have plans on sailing to Brazil. By the end of Godon's career he would be an Admiral, commanding a naval ship yard in Brooklyn, New York.
