Biography
Mary Hotchkiss was the mother of Emma Hotchkiss Platt, the wife of one of Auburn's Reverends in the early 1860s. Mary was the daughter of Dr. Robert Ashley of Lyons, NY. She married Hiram Gilbert Hotchkiss, who was in the essential oil trade, in January 1833. The couple had twelve children, most of whom survived to adulthood.
Fanny Seward describes seeing Mary while attending church in Auburn in January 1861.
