Biography

Mary Gladstone Drew was born in London on November 23, 1847, a daughter of William Ewart Gladstone and Catherine Glynne Gladstone. In 1880, at the age of 33, she became her father’s hostess while he was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She was interested in politics and morality which she discussed with her father and may have influenced his thinking. She married Hawarden curate, Harry Drew in 1886, and had a daughter in 1890. Mary Drew died at Hawarden Castle on January 1, 1927.
