Biography
Born in Stony Brook on Long Island, General F. B. Spinola was a Civil War General who later served in Congress. He is considered to be the first Italian-American Congressman. He volunteered for the army after the Civil War began and was made a Brigadier General. He was wounded twice in battle and was honorably discharged in August 1865. He then served in the House of Representatives from 1887-1891.
