Biography

Colonel Henry George Stebbins was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut in 1815. He served as a Democratic Represeantative from New York in th U.S. Congress from March 4, 1863 - October 24, 1864, when he resigned. He later was president of the New York Stock Exchange.

His sister, Emma Stebbins, was a sculptor who was romantically involved with Charlotte Cushman.
