Biography

"He was a member of the United States Exploring Expeditional from 1838 to 1842. He was in command of the DeSoto during the Civil War and was part of the blockading effort. He is buried near his grandfather, Theodoric Lee, brother of Light Horse Harry Lee, the father of Ceneral Robert E. Lee.

Captain in Wilkes Expedition. Eldest son of Samuel Purviance Walker whose wife was the daughter of Theodoric Lee. His aunt was Sarah Gales, also a daughter of Theodoric Lee.

Walker. At New York on the 20th instant, Captain William M. Walker, United States Navy. His friends and those of the family are respectfully requested to attend the funeral at the residence of his mother, 261 I Street Southeast at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

Funerals
Yesterday, the funeral of Captain William M. Walker took place from his residence by I Street and was attended by a number of officers of the Navy. A company of the United States Marines commanded by Captain Hayward accompanied by the band acted as an escort to the Congressional Cemetery.
