Newburgh 15t h Feby 1832
My Dear Henry
An application is before the legislature
for a third bank in this Co and a second one
in this place. This is got up by a few disappointed
persons in Newburgh who calculate to make
money out of the Opperation at the expense
of the Co[ . ]
Reason: We can substantiate when ever called
on that the Bank of Newburgh has always done &
do all the solvent Paper that has and can be
offered at their counter. The Orange County
Bank located in the Center of the County has
been useful to a great number of the new inha-
bitants of the upper Town. The effects of an
other bank in this place would be to
break down and destroy the Orange
Co Bank. The Applicants for this project
are principally from the river Towns
one or two monied men the rest to
men who have been officers in the O.C.
Bank and become tired of the labour
of attending. Will you write me at
Florida on the receipt of this and let me
know the standing and prospects of this
application.
Yours affectionately
