My dear Brother
Humphrey
and is the bearer of the Volume of Mortga-
ges - a little package of twelve Bonds - and
the statement. In regards to the latter
I will remark, that we have taken much
pains to have it correct. We waited for
a book from Steeles
to look elsewhere for another: nor has it
been possible to send you a perfect copy.
Making the statement prior to the day
of its date, has subjected it to a few
emendations, which mutilates it & gives
us some mortification. If you deem it
essential, and have opportunity, it may be
copied by someone in Albany or N. York.
We see few "settlers" - and are taking
little or no money. We have on hand

I marvel that you did not receive
my five or six letters before you left
Albany. I write you today addressed
to Florida.
The unhappy & critical situation of
my family
requires my attention. I
have in the morning, to furnish them
what relief I can. I hope this will
be agreeable to you. During my

absence, I request Mr Bradley
the receipts of money to you twice every
week — directed for the present to the care
of Mr Rathbone
My stay will be protracted an
hour beyond necessity - say four weeks
- and it will be my first object on my
return to remodel Mr Bradleys, depart-
ment - and my continued object to
push the business of the office
till the business now behind shall
be brought up & until the estate
is settled.
I am beginning, better to
understand my position & find
many reasons for wishing to see
you. I have some suggestions to
make relating to the course to be
pursued hereafter - & hope that it will
not be long until I shall see you
here with Frances.
Your affectionate Brother
B. J. Seward
