Goshen August 25th 1838
Dear Henry
Yesterday we held our County
convention to nominate delegates to the Utica
convention, which resulted in the appointment
of Genrl Nathaniel Dubois
Davis
of Dearpark, and also three Supernumaries as follows
Samuel Townsend
called Seward men, and there is no mistake in that,
I R Van Duzer
a high time in making them. Sharp
men first and thought everything was right. We then
nominated ours, and when the vote was taken
Sharps men got 5 votes and ours got 30 AS Murray
the Cashier of the Bank was so angry at the result that
he rubed his fist in my face. I have just had a long
conversation with the General he is now for this
matter all settled, he finds they are used up, but more
of this hereafter – If you want me to be at Utica

you must write and let me know.
I would like to hear from you as soon as conven-
ient how the Matter appears at present.
It is surmised
will write to defeat your nomination that they
expect you will be the Strongest on the first ballat
