Dear H.
I have a letter from Father
Birth: 1768-12-05 Death: 1849-08-24
of the 16th
ult in which he remarks, after narrating
his repeated applications to me, “That he
deems the course I have ever taken, as to
the vault, as extremely offensive to him.”—
He thinks he is neither treated with “frank-
ness” nor “kindness” & indeed is severe in
censures upon me.
The inclosed is the 4th letter I have
had from him upon the subject-& it seems
that my intimation from Albany that I
would try to attend to it in May or June
is not satisfactory.
I have now answered, that he may
rely upon me to see the work executed
very soon—that I am immersed in cares
that scarcely allow me time to sleep
& have a family to move in a very
few days, or I would repair to his
place at once—that I have written
you to determine when you can come
and keep land office while I may be
absent & to inform him of the time.
It is absolutely essential to the inter-
ests & the settlement of this estate that
there should be a good deal of suing
within three months & during this
period there will be many persons
resorting to the office to effect ad-
justments-while it would be re-
garded as mockery to leave them
to be told by clerks that their
business could receive no attention.
Are you able to look forward &
see how matters can be carried
forward for a few months. If you
are able to be here at any period
pray write F. that I may come &
tell him when-if unable, I am
of opinion that I had better step
down for a short time & dispatch
this matter before commencing our
injunctments-the foreclosures I will
commence without delay. Can you
drop me a line to tell me what
to do.
