Dear Henry
The arrival of your letter last
evening, citing me to repair to Albany
when all hearts were looking for
here – and informing us of Frances’
safety after an hour of peril, quite
took us by surprise. The substance
of it was communicated to little Smith
the self same hour – in order to ar-
rest his determination to proceed
to Buffalo to escort [ her ]
Alternate Text: his mother
But it produced no other effect than
to give occasion for argument & fresh
proof of his want of fidelity to our
business- He has gone – when to
return, is doubtful- I now think
I must may wait for him & be
with you on Thursday of next week.
– We have been suing a good deal
– the office is full of people every day
& I cannot leave it alone with Denton
Yours gratefully B J Seward
