My dear Mrs Seward,
I haste to appologise
for my apparent rudeness in not joining
you at dinner yesterday. I was so much oc
-cupied that I did not complete my business
till 4 o clock. I derive some consolation
from the remembrance that I had no dinner
at all unless the task of picking the skeleton of
a cold turkey at Hall's
Unknown
, which the Governor
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
had denu-
ded may be deemed a dinner. I cannot so cursed
on it & I trust you will, as I do, find in my
privation a proper punishment for failing to fulfil
my engagement.
Very sincerely & respectfully Yours
James Brown
