Auburn March 9th 1844.
My dear Father,
An opportunity offers to invest two thousand
dollars in a bond and mortgage
The charging of property by a debtor to a creditor as security for a debt, on the condition that it shall be returned on the payment of the debt within a certain period • Convey property to a creditor as security on a loan •
on 148 acres of land in South
Byron
Genese Co. distant six miles from Batavia and within
half a mile of the Rail Road.
The Bond & Mortgage payable in two annual payments
with annual interest.
Will you please inform me whether if the
title and security could be made satisfactory you could spare
the money this spring.
The land is as desirable as the best lands in the
State. The farm was sold in Oct 1842 for $37 per acre
and the two thousand dollars is the balance unpaid.
Your very affectionate Son
William H. Seward
The Honorable
Samuel S. Seward,
