Albany March 17. 1849
Dear Sir
My colleague Mr Hawley
Birth: 1810-02-10 Death: 1884-11-10
has been
for some timepast in such ill health as to prevent him from laboring
in the business in which we are engaged and I am
apprehensive he has not sufficient strength of constitu-
tion to undergo the labor necessary to discharge the
duties of an office requiring from twelve to fourteen
hours incessant labor daily. Some other avocation where
he can be more actively employed seems necessary and
there is no reason why he should not receive the ap-
pointment of Post Master at Buffalo. On the score of
political services he deserves the office and no more
judicious appointment could be made I have not
ventured to name the thing to MrH. If you concur
in the suggestion and think it possible to bring
about his appointment a very strong effort will be
made.
Truly etc
A Worden
Hon
W H Seward
