Auburn December 12. 1849
My Dear Uncle,
You will please find enclosed duplicate
receipts for Seventy Dollars and 50/100, and also draft 9987
on Luther Wrights Bk, which I have this day rec’d from
Messrs Kip
on the Bond and Mortgage of Darius Williams to S.S. Seward
Thirty five Dollars and fifty cents I have de-
posited in the B’k to your credit – the balance is contained
in the Draft accompanying this.
The fifty cents is for the payments of the balance
due on the semi annual payments made 12th June 1847.
The draft is for the payment due June 12. 1848.
The money for this last mentioned payment was deposited
in the B’k at the time it became due, and a draft
sent to S.S. Seward. Mr Kip informs me that he supposed
the Draft was presented and paid, till after the receipt
of your letter, in inquiring at the B’k he found the
money still remaining and that then he became aware
for the first time that the Draft had never been rec’d.
he will pay interest if you request it but inasmuch as
no blame can attach to him for the non-receipt of
the Draft, he thinks nothing is due from him upon it.
The description of the Draft is upon the other side of this page.
You will please acknowledge its receipt.
Your affectionate nephew
Clarence A Seward
Honorable
William H. Seward
