Editorial Note
Saturday May 14. Noon.
We have just completed a week on ship board – with
the result of sixteen hundred and seventy seven miles
traversed, and a waste of fourteen hundred and
seventy three miles yet intervening between us and
our destination on the Coast of England – The register
records a similar confirmation. It has noted 100,000
revolutions of the wheel, and then without a moments
delay or the least impatience taken up the tally anew
and registered eleven thousand over that new account
yesterdays vigor has relaxed – and we now though
above latitude 47 are enjoying skies as balmy
as those of tropical climes. A gentle breeze fills
our sails and the barometer harmonizing with our
feelings and wishes still faithfully holds fast at
Set Fair –
