Auburn April 11 th 1861
My dear Fred
Please tell Father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
that I
^have^ deposited in the safe, Mc Dougalls
Birth: 1839-09-14 Death: 1914-05-24
& my own
joint note for the $5,000. I did not draw
the note on demand as you suggested, as
father told me when I was at Washington
that a three years note without interest would
answer, this would leave our capital in a
better shape in case any thing should
happen, and I should much prefer to
have it arranged in this way.
I did not send my usual statement
accounts here, on the first of the month as
have been very busy and presumed that
it would answer as well if I only sent
one this month. I will send a statement
after the next Chaut Co remmittance.
Yours affectionately
Wm H Seward Jr
