My dear Mother,
We have now
nearly 15,000 troops here, and
all fears of attack have given
place to plans of carrying on the
campaign. Communication by
mail and telegraph is reopened
and Maryland is so rapidly
returning to her senses that trains
and troops will probably be
passing through Baltimore, in
a week or so more, as usual

today. It already looks cheerful
and comfortable. We shall dine
there for the first time tonight
