Wednesday morning
My dear Mother,
Everybody is saddened
& dispirited today by the disaster at
Bethel caused by the blundering incom-
petence of our own officers.
The Cayuga Regiment
went into camp yesterday, near
Georgetown. They could obtain no
large flag for their flagstaff from
the War Department, so we gave
them one of those which have
been decorating our parlors for
the military receptions
Gov. Morgan
Birth: 1811-02-08 Death: 1883-02-14
& Attorney General Myers
Birth: 1810-02-17 Death: 1881-12-27
came in last night, to
further arrange about the New
York Troops.
We drove out yesterday to
visit the camp of the Garibaldi
Regiment. The plain east of the
Capitol, out by the Congressional
burying ground is covered with
camps. The Syracuse Regiment, the
Pennsylvanians & others are there
Affectionately your son
Frederick
