My dear Mother,
The call of
the President
Birth: 1809-02-12 Death: 1865-04-15
is already bringing
an effective response. We hear
of three thousand men already
arrived in Baltimore, three
thousand more on the Rail-
roads, and fifteen thousand
to start before Saturday
night. The heavy rains
have so swelled the Potomac
that the Confederates will
hardly be able to ford it,
and by the time the water
falls, we shall be strong enough
for anything they can do.
