Sunday Dec 15th
My dearest Henry
Another Sunday
has come round remind-
ing me of that which
was so pleasantly passed
a week ago – Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
has
gone to Church and
I am reading the “Foreign
Affairs” I can see more
how many disturbing
influences must have
perplexed you last spring
and summer– The country
was not aware of the
rocks they were passing near
Page 2

I must admit that
I am disappointed in
both England & France
They were too ready to
assume that we were
a divided people–
Every one is amazed at
the amount of work
you have done– none
question the ability
manifested in your
instructions–or the wisdom
as far as I can learn–
All are well at home
We begin to talk of going
to Washington Saturday
of this week instead
of waiting until next
Page 3

week–of this I will
write to Augustus
Birth: 1826-10-01 Death: 1876-09-11

Your own
Frances–
