My Dear Fred,
I have seen in dif-
ferent paper a notice of the
dangerous illness of your
Brother
through Mr Grier
hoped he was improving, I
trust that it is so,
In times like these, when
every man from the most
influential to the humblest
is wanted on the side of his
country and government that
I dread to hear of any falling
of from any cause, for this I
hope that Willie may be spared
as also to his family,
Please accept for you all

and my warmest wishes
for your future health and
prosperity
Enclosed is a letter for
Shanghai, I do not know
that we may avail our-
selves of this privilege
if not you will instruct
me.
