20th Aug. 1866
My dearest Father,
Your letter of
the 18th came at noon
today. I am anxious
to know how your dinner
passed off without the
guest whom the others
were invited to meet.
You will think that
I have been chosen not
only local dispatch agent
but office seeker in
general. I send you
a letter which came to
me yesterday – I did not
want to send it – & did
not know what to do —

through me than in
any other way. It is
like having one's own
family turn against
one. For my own
part I become so in-
dignant — that I
had better drop the subject

for New York. Expects to
be home again Friday.
