Biography

Alexander Ramsey was a political figure who served as both the first governor of of the Minnesota Territory and the second governor of the state. Ramsey was elected to be state governor of Minnesota State in 1860, and in 1861 he was the first state governor to answer President Lincoln's call for troops as the Civil War began. Ramsey was also elected as a US Senator in 1863 and served as Secretary of War under President Rutherford B. Hayes.
