Biography

Adjutant General of US Army. Began his military career in 1809 as a Lieutenant of Marines. At the outbreak of the War of 1812, he was appointed a Captain of Artillery in the Army. In 1825, he was raised to the confidential post of Adjutant General, which he held until his death in 1852. The Adjutant General is now known as the Army Assistant Chief of Staff. Adjutant Generals are responsible for the procedures affecting personnel procurement and the administration and preservation of records of all army personnel.
