George Mountfort was a merchant, appointed Consul for the Island of Candia. He also wrote for the Boston Gazette, Boston Post, Daily Bee, Evening Transcript.  While in the Island of Candia during his resident there he was conferred the Imperial order of Medidich or Knighthood by the sultan Abdul Aziz.
