Biography
Thorald is only known as being the father of Ulphus. Ulphus donated all his lands and wealth to the Church of York, presenting them with a horn as an emblem to seal his bequest. In the legend of Ulphus' bequest he is referred to as the "son of Thorald."
There is one source that claims that "Thorald" may have been a wealthy man who was sheriff of Lincolnshire. This was the only Englishman at this period bearing the name "Thorold."
